Parents sometimes need professional guidance for a child who is alienated from a parent, or who is caught between the parents. A child may show distress or other symptoms during transitions between homes. Parents may need help with how to communicate with each other, or a place to consult about the dispute itself.
Intensive therapy with the whole family (both parents and the children) is central to reestablishing contact in a healthy and safe way. Stephen may work individually with the children and with each parent, in whatever combination is recommended.
The purpose
The therapy works with each parent and the children toward appropriate relationships. It includes education so each parent can understand a child’s needs, including what a broken relationship with a parent can mean for a child now and later in life.
