Parenting coordination

Help after the plan is already written.

Sometimes parents continue to struggle to reach agreements after a final parenting plan, or where a court order is already in place. Parenting coordination is built for that stretch of family life.

Stephen’s role as parenting coordinator has two functions.

One is as a coach, educator, and facilitator, working to reduce parental conflict and to build mutual respect and cooperation. The other is to help parents implement, maintain, and comply with their parenting plan or court order.

Stephen does not make binding decisions about legal custody, relocation, or parenting time schedules, other than decisions of a minor and temporary nature.

When there is a dispute and the parents cannot agree, he uses a number of methods to assist them. He also works with an arbitrator and lawyer who can arbitrate and make a final and binding decision, in keeping with the children’s best interests, for matters that the parenting plan does not designate otherwise.
